OUR CHURCH ELDERS

In the New Testament, the word “presbuteros” means “elder,” and it refers to the custom of choosing leaders and advisors from among the members of the church.

Presbyterians are a group of Protestants whose church is founded on the concept of democratic rule under the Word of God.  Our congregation is governed by 12 elders, who, along with the pastors, are ordained to lead our congregation in what is called the Session.

A popular motto for Presbyterians is “Decently and in Order.” Our denomination has a highly organized structure, after which our nation has developed its democratic political structure. Our Administration committee oversees the details of business in the life of the church body.

ADMINISTRATION is divided into four categories:

  •       PERSONNEL oversees the paid staff of our church, developing job descriptions,
being advocates to and for the church staff, and acting as liaison between the staff
    and the congregation.
    Personnel Elder :

  •       FINANCE administrates the financial aspect of our particular church. This committee is responsible for overseeing the annual budget and all special funds and gifts and works with the Board of Trustees.
    Finance Elder :

  •       STEWARDSHIP: Commitment to responding to God’s blessings to us in thankful giving to Him is an important aspect of WPC. The Stewardship Committee runs the annual stewardship campaign and the capital campaign, and the committee reminds us that giving back to the Lord is something we are all called to do with our time, our talents, our gifts, and our material resources.
    Stewardship Elder :

  •       BUILDING AND GROUNDS: Our building, our property, and all we have are gifts from God for the building up of the body of Christ. Members of Building and Grounds work to keep this property in good working order, as it is a reflection to the community of our commitment to the Lord. With good stewardship of our resources, Building and Grounds works both on the maintenance and the update of our church’s property.

  • Building and Grounds Elder :

Our Administrative Committees meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:30,
with the exception of Personnel, which meets at 5:15 p.m.
